Christmas Pageant Rehearsals

November 3, 2011

This year, the Christmas Pageant at Kenwood will be presented  during the 10:00 am worship service on Sunday, December 11.  All children and youth are invited to participate.  Rehearsals will be held during Choir Practice on November 13 and December 4 at 4:00 pm and at 11:15 am on Sunday mornings during Small Groups beginning on November 13.  Also, there will be a dress rehearsal on Saturday, December 10.  Those children who participate are expected to attend all rehearsals.

If your child(ren) are interested, please bring them to the Sanctuary after worship on November 13.  Miss Wendy, the children’s Choir Director, and Miss Rhonda will meet with the children to discuss the pageant and assign roles.  We will have a lot of fun as we sing and tell the story of the birth of Jesus!  If you have questions about the Christmas Pageant, please contact Miss Rhonda by calling the church office at 798-7444 or by email at rhonda@kenwoodumchurch.org.

This Holiday Season: Don’t Take the Basics for Granted!

November 3, 2011

This year help fill bags for the Freedom House Christmas Day Dinner for the homeless and working poor!  “Giving Bags” contain basic items like deodorant, soap, shampoo, diapers, toothbrushes and paste that many of us take for granted.  Help make a difference in someone’s life this Christmas Season by helping to fill as many bags as possible.  A board with a list of items needed is in the Sanctuary foyer for you to make your  selections.  You can choose between completing a full bag or buying items that will be consolidated later to make a complete bag.  All Giving Bag items will be due to Kenwood on Sunday, December 4.  Please place the bags/items in the box provided in the Sanctuary foyer.  To check out the Giving Bag needs’ list electronically, go to: http://freedomhouse.nsd0.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/needslistforgivingbags.pdf.

Safe Sanctuary Training – Make up Session

October 12, 2011

Keeping children safe when they are at Kenwood is of the utmost importance. Therefore, on Sunday, October 23, at 9:00 am there will be an important training opportunity for those who volunteer in our children’s programs.  If you work in the nursery, teach Story Circles, lead KidZone, God’s Pride, Higher Ground, or volunteer at VBS, and did not attend our last training session, your attendance is very important.  Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend this make up training.

Contact the church office to register at 798-7444 or main@kenwoodumchurch.org.  If you have any questions about this training, please contact Rhonda Toussaint, Minister for Children & Youth at rhonda@kenwoodumchurch.org or 798-7444.

KidZone & God’s Pride Begins September 25

September 21, 2011

Kenwood’s Sunday evening programs for children will resume September 25!

KidZone (preschool through 2nd grade) and God’s Pride (grades 3-5) will meet on two Sunday evenings each month for Christian education, fellowship and fun, and dinner.  Please check out our calendar for specific dates.  As in the past, children should arrive at 5:00 p.m.  Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm and we ask that parents pick up their children no later than 6:30 pm.  Our overarching theme this year will be “What If…Church Left the Building?”  Our focus with the children will be on taking what we learn in small groups and church into the world to serve our community.  The staff and volunteers are excited about our plans and getting back to these fun learning opportunities for Kenwood’s kids!  If you have questions, please contact Rhonda at rhonda@kenwoodumchurch.org or 798-7444.

Acolyte Training

September 21, 2011

Acolytes have been part of the church in one form or another for over 2,000 years.  They are an important part of the worship service because they bring the light of Christ into the worship service, and take it out into the world as the congregation leaves.

At Kenwood, children and youth second grade and older are invited to become acolytes.  A training which teaches the symbolism and ritual of acolyting, as well as the mechanics, is offered each fall. This fall’s training will be Sunday, September 25 at 6:30 pm.  It will last about 30 minutes.  A parent or guardian should attend with their child.

Questions?  Contact Pastor Beth, or Debbie Duty, Worship Ministries Chair.

Children’s Choir

September 21, 2011

Children’s Choir (for those in Kindergarten through 5th grade) will resume on Sunday, September 25.  If your child would like to sing during worship and participate in the Christmas Pageant, he/she is invited to attend!  Children’s Choir practice is from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (in the Choir Room) on the Sundays that KidZone and God’s Pride meet.  Check our calendar for specific dates.

This year, the children will be led by Wendy Malamphy who is new to Kenwood.  Wendy has led the Cherub Choir at Reveille UMC for many years and is very excited to share her love of music with the children of Kenwood.  This promises to be a wonderful experience for the children as they “make a joyful noise unto the Lord!”

Story Circles Resume

September 6, 2011

On Sunday, September 11, Kenwood’s Christian Education Program will resume with “Story Circles” for children in Kindergarten through Fifth grade.  This fall, the children will learn about the story of God’s amazing creation as found in Genesis 1:1 – Genesis 2:1-3.  Story Circle Leaders will teach the children using hands-on activities,  music, food, games, storytelling and more.  The children will be divided into two groups:  Grades K-2 in one group, and Grades 3-5 in another. Story Circles will meet in the Education Building at 11:15 am following worship.  We hope your children will join us for this time of learning and fun!

Volunteers Needed:  If you would like to volunteer to lead Story Circles for two Sundays this fall, please contact Rhonda Toussaint at rhonda@kenwoodumchurch.org or at 798-7444.
