mericans has high blood pressure. Left untreated, it can lead to other serious health problems. Most of the time, high blood pressure is “silent”—which means you may feel no symptoms. That’s why people can have high blood pressure and not even know it. The first step is to find out if you have high blood pressure. Our Parish Nurse, Barbara Huster, R.N., will be taking blood pressure readings this Sunday, February 5, after worship in the Fellowship Hall. There is no cost and no registration is needed.

New Worship Series Beginning in Mid-January
December 27, 2011Stop the Spinning!
Sometimes it feels like life is out of control and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Things move at a whirlwind pace, commitments never let up, someone always wants us to do something. It’s like being on an amusement park ride that spins and spins and spins, and we want to get off but can’t seem to stop it. Beginning on January 15 and continuing for five weeks in worship, we’ll explore strategies to help stop our lives from spinning out of control.
January 15: Setting Boundaries—What’s Lawful and What’s Beneficial
January 22: Figure Out Who You’re Going to Obey
January 29: Sometimes We All Need A Time Out
February 5: When Even Superglue Doesn’t Work
February 12: You’ve Got to Give It Away
New Small Group on Boundaries, Beginning January 15!
December 27, 2011Bound
aries on property are easy to define, usually. We know where our property ends and a neighbor’s begins. But boundaries as personal property lines can be a bit challenging. Many times, we think that as people of faith, we should focus on loving and giving, not how to set limits on those things. This small group, which will run for nine weeks beginning January 15 through and including March 11, will use the book and workbook Boundaries to help us wrestle with these questions:
*Can I set limits and still be a loving person?
*How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy or money?
*Why do I feel guilty when I consider setting boundaries?
Pastor Beth will facilitate this study, which coincides with a five-week sermon series on similar topics. You must register by Sunday, January 8, for books to be ordered. Call or email the church office to register. The cost for the book will be $8.

We begin at 6:00 pm on Friday and conclude by 4:00 pm on Saturday. The cost is free – Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch are included. Please call or email the church office by Sunday, January 15 to register.
Kenwood Youth Lock-In!
December 27, 2011Join us on Friday, January 13, for our first Kenwood Youth Overnight Lock-in. Youth (Grades 6-12) will arrive around 6:00 pm and be locked-in until 10:00 am on Saturday morning. Each room in the Education Building will be converted to a theme such as “Potions” (make fizzy, fruity and fun drinks), the “Rock & Roll Wreck Room” (music and games-board and Wii) and the “Kenwood Drive-in Theatre.” It will be an evening of food, fun, games and hopefully a little sleep. To cover the cost of food/drinks, we are asking for $10/youth. Chaperones will also be needed.
Be on the lookout for additional communications as we get closer to the date. If you are not already on the Higher Ground email list, please contact Mark and Debra Waite at thew8s@comcast.net to be added.
